Ogh. I had someone come with that exact sam pic and want a cake like that.   I think that cake is so butt-ugly, but I did a similar one and they were happy.
I won't touch mini-cakes.   We used to, but people had hissy-fits at the price. Cake muggles just don't get it. They look at a mini-cake and think *cupcake*, and then croak whe you say that minis start at $25.

1½ year old thread!   Why do these old threads keep popping up?
We use purchased fondant (Renshaw). Consistent results, less bodily damage (less kneading), and, in the long run, cheaper - no clean up and fewer visits to the massage therapist.

It is done in sections. If you look closely you'll see the edge of the fondant where they folded it over.
