I think you've made a good-faith effort to right things. At this point there's not much else you can do. Don't let it hang over your head, you did the best you could given the circumstances.
I just spent a good amount of time cutting up two 13 inch, and one 9 inch cake base from foam core board. Apart from the process being mildly irritating, it got me thinking... am I really saving that much money compared to buying cake...
