whats an sps?
Do you put the ribbon on freshly made? Do you let it stiffen a little? Do you add gum paste for more stability? I made a chevron ribbon and found it even more difficult to apply, would I want to let it refrigerate, air dry somewhat it tears easily in the dips and valleys if I tried to apply freshly made.

When you let the cake settle, is it filled and torted?
Is it possible to post a picture of your husband's handy work with the car shelf? I have a Camry and I know my husband would rather make a shelf than buy a CRV.
Yes I agree putting fondant on frozen cakes does result in bulges!! Thaw them out.
