I've just done a dairy free cake (and am in the UK) and used Pure spread for the buttercream and soya milk which worked really well (it was chocolate buttercream so you don't miss the lack of butter flavour).

I've got it in my head that gluten free cake doesn't keep for as long as regular cake does and can't seem to find a definite answer on here or on google.     I've got to make a cake for Monday which is going to be gluten...
Thanks for your reply, I ended up putting thin layers of thicker paint on and that seemed to work (although had more trouble this morning with it when I touched a bit up then it refused to dry and the paint was still slightly wet on...
I would say it was too dry too, maybe take a small bit of the buttercream add a small amount of liquid and do some test roses to see if that helps.  Sometimes it doesn't take a lot of liquid to make a big difference is ragged...
