Your first petal is also your center, so there is no core.  Make a petal larger than you normally would for the first petal, roll it not too tightly, take your next petal and lay it against the first with only a little overlay....

If I was going to change to a color than I think I would invest in having something custom printed for me.  I think that is a better idea.
Norasmom is right, your layers may slip or at best the whip cream base filling will melt under your fondant.

Is it going to be a purse?  If its just a round or square cake, I don't see why it would be so hard. I personally have not made one, but I do use transfer sheets and they are pretty easy to use.
