Hi fellow cake makers!
So, I am about to head to the store for the third time to buy expensive materials because I cannot get a certain technique down. The money is solely going to dummy cakes for my own personal promotion at a bridal show and it is breaking my heart and a little of my gusto towards this project, as the greater result is blurring a bit with each reciept from the cash register.
Does anyone have any stories they want to share about how a particularly challenging project resonated positively in their career? I feel like this lovely communities positivity could supplement some of this coffee for a boost:)
Thanks!:)
Firstly, congrats on being brave enough to do a show! Take heart, because you know what? Everyone with any skill has had to practice it. Plumbers have practiced joints on copper pipes, electricians have probably shocked themselves (lol), and we are all always learning. Your cake dummies are not just an investment for the show, they can be kept looking pretty and used in your window for a display, or impress your neighbours! Not every technique is easy to pick up, but hey, that's why people pay us to do it, we have the experience, the vision and the love! So forge on and be proud! :D
Thank you so much for that amazing perspective!:) It definetly helps to be realistic about situations and know that everybody doesn't get it on the first try. Thanks Edible art co:)
AWell you're certainly not wasting money on edible gold leaf for a dummy are you? I mean yeah, get familiar with using so you know how for a real order, but use that fake stuff for dummies. And ignore this dummy if you're already doing just that. ;)
haha no, it's definetly the fake stuff for the dummy. I wouldn't touch the real stuff before going through tons of this. Great practice though, it's mega sensitive. Have you used alot of it before AZ?
AHa ha, whew! Good to hear! I have a few times, yep, but I haven't tried to make any patterns with it, just straight up gold leafed tiers, like you usually see, where it's covering the whole surface. I've used more silver than gold. It is really sensitive, you got that right.
