Rice Krispies Showing Through Fondant Help!!!
Decorating By jewels710 Updated 17 Jul 2014 , 8:58pm by Cakespirations
I have made several rice treat figures only to have the bumples of the krispies show through the fondant.
Is there a trick to getting smooth fondant on top of the rice krispies?
Ive tried spreading on frosting and melted chocolate. Maybe not thick enough? Not sure.
Thanks!
I've always used melted chocolate to spread on the krispie treat...BUT after melting the chocolate (or white chocolate or candy melts) I wait until it cools almost to the consistency of peanut butter. I find that it doesn't melt away into all the grooves but its soft enough to still get in the grooves and make a nice cover. And its easier to smooth. I typically use my fingers as the chocolate cools to smooth out any tool marks as the heat of my fingers is just enough to work out imperfections.
Also, you could try to run the krispies though a processor to make it finer before you mix with the butter and marshmallow. That will help make a less lumpy treat.
drat on the bumples (I love your word ;)
yes there is a cure, more than one --
- sand them off with a microplane --
- before you make them whirl the rk in a food processor -- this makes a much denser product but smoothy smooth
K8memphis, what a great idea for putting them in the food processor. I can see how that would make it a whole lot easier to form with no bumples. I am sure that will solve her problems for the next time she uses RKT.
Thanks for the info on smoothing bumples!! That word makes me smile! I have some objects to mold, and that sounds like the perfect solution.
If I've already made a figure and can't get it smooth enough, sometimes just running a spoon along it can help smooth down the bumples (new favorite word, by the way!).
