I just fell in love with Clair Bowen cake lace. I have ordered her cake lace mix. My question is if this product with work with other silicone molds, or do I need to order Clair Bowen lace molds. Thank you
AIt will work perfectly with any silicone lace mats you have, I have lots of different makes of mats and it works with them all.
APastel colours in gel work well. But black and other dark colours that you need to use a lot of make it too sticky. But cake lace is now available to buy in black and several other colours and is pre-mixed and ready to use straight from the tub.
AThanks for your reply! =) what if I were to airbrush it black afterwards? Would the liquid from the airbrush effect the lace?
I suspect that if you use a water based paint it may go tacky, but mine are alchohol based and evaporate virtually instantly so maybe that would work? Good luck :-)
AI haven't tried airbrushing it myself so don't know the answer to that. But you could email Claire at Cake Lace as she is very good with help and advice, she also has a Facebook page where someone may be able to help you.
Snowflake.....I have family in Swindon.:-D
Hello again,
So I "tested" coloring the cake lace. And it was a success =)
I was able to color the cake lace black without the cake lace messing up on me. I followed the instructions on how to prepare it. Instead of adding the 50 ml of water I added about 40 ml. And instead of adding 1/2 teaspoon of part B I added a little more. I would say about 1 teaspoon. I added a really good generous amount of black. When it was done mixing it looks like a charcoal black/grey but as you can see in the photos it dried black!
I would recommend giving it a 2nd coat (bake twice) so that it is more firm. I only gave mine one coat and had a really hard time attaching it to my cake. It tore on me all the time and it was just a mess.
Once you bake it (first coat) its going to seem like its really firm. But it does not stay that way. It loosens up and become real fragile, so coat it twice. And follow the instructions on how to store it if you dont use it right away. If not it will stick to your paper. Hope this Helps.
Oh to get the powder off I airbrushed the entire cake with white airbrush.
AWell done that looks great. But I think its easier to buy the black ready made cake lace, dries quite firm
Oh yea it would be easier, I would have gotten it pre-made but it was a last minuet order and I didnt have time to order it. =/
