Baking By CanadianCakin Updated 19 Apr 2014 , 10:02pm by flamingolady
I have a request for a rootbeer float cake I am going to use Macsmoms recipe from the gourmet flavours. I was just wondering if anyone had any idea of what a good filling would be? Just basic buttercream?? Its a fondant cake...
Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I have done a root beer cake before and I used a bavarian cream filling, I hink vanilla buttercream would also be good.
We have done this several times and it is always one of our biggest hits! We use a root beer glaze on the cakeandfill with a root beer buttercream! Yum!
Steffla- rootbeer glaze?! I'm intrigued!
CiNoRo- I have yet to find rich's bettercream here in BC
The only thin I've found is a frozen coffee cream called Rich's!
Thanks for the ideas!
aaw that stinks that stuff is awesome...it tastes a lot like whipped cream. know any recipes for a whipped cream like filling?
Root beer glaze:
4 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup root beer
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
The root beer buttercream is
2 cups powdered sugar
Pinch of salt
1 dram of Lorann root beer flavored oil
1/4 cup root beer
1 stick of butter
Though I must add it is extremely sweet...
As for other filling options, any good creamy vanilla type filling will add to the root beer and vanilla ice cream flavored combo of a classic root beer float!
Hi there!
I am making a Root Beer flavoured cake for a wedding and came across your post here. Do you put the glaze on top of the filled cake, or does it go on each layer before you fill the cake and stack it?
Thank you so much for any info you can give me. Also, thank you for the glaze and buttercream recipe in a later reply :-)

AWhat if you did a marshmallow filling? I think it would mirror the taste of the foamy top root beer floats always have.
ARoot beer is my favorite soda. I must try some of these suggestions. First I have to find the recipe for the cake...I want to make cupcakes.
This site is awesome!!!
