I am trying to get a Cottage Food Law passed in Wisconsin. I could really use help. I have started an on-line petition for Wisconsin residents to sign. I have to put the finishing touches on letters for lawmakers and would like to personally hand deliver them to lawmakers in the future. Would anyone be interested in going to Madison as a group to find lawmakers that would be willing to support a CFL and/or be the author of the bill.
Here is the on-line petition, your can share it with friends and family.

I tried, but it keeps telling my my password is invalid, and i'm quite sure it is NOT! I will bookmark it and try again later, and THANK YOU for sharing!

I JUST HAD THE SAME ISSUE
just tried again, still not working. I can't even find a place to create an account first... you know, so a password exists to sign in with? Nothin'.....
i just tried to Email Shannon...sometimes people don't get notifications...so hopefully that might help
Not sure why but a password protection was put on the petition. So weird, since I didn't do that and others had signed it. Oh, well it's up now.
Glad to know that others want to sign because I was feeling sad to see no one has signed it since 1/17.
I am still finishing the letter to lawmakers, hopefully will get this done in the next week. I want to start a facebook page to post information that is easily accessible to others. I need to come up with a logo for it... so if anyone has any ideas, I am open to it. Colorado CFL has an awesome logo if you need some ideas.

YAY!
Hmmm, i like their logo but it's a little blue I would definitely like to help out in this matter in any way that i can!
Last night i found a new site that listed WI as having a cottage food law I instantly sent them an email and said they needed to read the part in the WI Agriculture PDF they had listed on their site that specifies where you can cook...if some people found that they would have been sooo happy and then let down
oh, JUST SIGNED! Plus, i guess you gotta be careful. the site is trying to solicit money after you sign...I double checked. i signed it without donating...so we're all good
Signed it!!! Thank you for starting this....I just started baking for others and this law would help a ton!!!!
I spoke with Dept. of Ag today and found out a representative is already looking into a Cottage Food Law, he called it the cookie law After talking with several people it is not a published bill it's only in the beginning stages. I have left a voice message with this representative. This is great news as this has started the ball rolling into amending the statue so that anyone can have a home baking business in Wisconsin quicker than if I had started it. If you haven't done so already and live in WI please sign the petition below and share with friends and families in WI. I don't know if the plans would be to get it into this session or not. It would be great if it was!!
this is so very exciting that I wish everyone from every state could try to support us in taking the next step...SIGN THE PETITION IN SUPPORT! lol
Is there or is there not a cottage food law in WI? Someone posted in another thread, a map of states with cottage food laws and it says Wisconsin is one of them.

Then I search online and found this website, which claims WI has a cottage food law:

I am planning on moving to WI next year and I am hoping thay have a cottage food law

there is one in the works now! but both the website and the forum is incorrect I have already written to that website and told them they were incorrect and they need to read the PDF in which they included from the Dept. of Agriculture where it specifically states that you need a "separate kitchen" with a separate entrance if it is attached to your home. this is nothing like a cottage food law in my understanding.
welcome to WI when you get to Gatu! where will you be living?
Thank you step0nmi for clarifying whats going on.
About 10 years ago, I used to live in a small town called Cambria but then moved to Georgia. I want to move back to Sun Prairie or nearby by next summer. Too much crime here and getting worst everyday. I also missed going to the amish store on Saturdays .
4ShannonH- what a great update to come back here to find! I googled the "cookie Law" to see what else i could find and came across the facebook post by ArtfullyDelicious with this same update and a link to the petition. I shared it on my facebook page, as well as my facebook.com/cookieartist page. The fan page already got 2 more signatures =] I will keep re=posting it!
I know this is a few months later but I signed the petition and posted something on my Facebook page asking friends and family to sign it.
Are there any new updates????
Better late than never I guess! I found the link online and signed the petition. However, I did find a link that is under construction so is the Wisconsin Cottage Law already passed, and if so, does anyone have any idea how to access the link?
I have had several requests from people for wedding cakes only to find out that the place where they have their wedding receptions require a "licensed" baker. Does the Cottage Law allow a home baker to be licensed or is this another license altogether? I work full time during the week and the last thing I want to do in evenings and weekends is haul all my cake baking stuff to a commercial or business kitchen to bake my cakes when I can do it just as easily in the comfort of my own hom.
No it isn't passed yet. Additionally I wrote an email to Rep. Janis Ringhand who I guess is the person that was approached about this law and told her my story. I got a response back from Maggie Gau from the office of Rep. Janis Ringhand ... here is what she said:
"Mandy,
Thank you for contacting our office.
I appreciate you sharing your personal experience with us. That is exactly why we are working on cottage food legislation that would allow small businesses like yours to grow in Wisconsin. Since the Legislature will not be back in session until January 2013 we are currently working on putting the finishing touches on our legislation. If youd like, I can forward you a copy as soon as its completed.
Thanks again for your email and we will be in touch!
Maggie"
If you feel the need to contact her or Rep. Janis Ringhand and tell them your story, here are their email address.

Also if you have friends or family member to pass on the link to and get them to sign it as well that would be awesome!!! The more signatures the better, obviously
Hi Everyone!
I'm new to Cake Central and just followed the link to the iPetition for the Wisconsin Home Bakers Cottage Food Law. I changed careers later in life and graduated last year from the Baking & Pastry Arts program at MATC-Madison. I've been baking since I was 12 yrs. old and it's been a lifelong passion (and dream) of mine to open a small bakery and sell at Farmer's Markets. I see there are 653 signatures and there are a 1,000 needed. I posted on my FB page and will get the word out wherever I can. Is Rep. Janis Ringhand still the individual to contact about this law? If so, I see that her e-mail is provided in a previous post. I would love to get a group together to meet with her in person! Anyone else interested?
Pam
