I have a wedding cake to do in March and the bride would like Tuilps incorporated into the design as that will be her wedding flower. Does anyone know hoe to make tulips out of B/C royal fondant or anything? Pictures would also be great to help me visualize,
Thanks in advance
Shayla
I know someone helped me with tulips...but I cant remember where or who....I will move this to the top so someone can help you, and I will keep looking.....I think maybe Lisa was the one but not sure....
Hi, I made butter cream tulips onto the cake itself as practice once.
there is a tip out there that is curved like an "U"...the smaller version is an "81" tip to make lily of the valley. Wilton calls it the #403 ruffle tip I think.
I piped my tube 6 (or fatter..lol) stems..long tip 115 or 366, whichever you like to work with, tulip leaves, then placed my "U" tip in the center and piped one tuip petal and 2 on eighter side of first one.
You need to pipe in one motion, you can not stop in the middle of piping your petal. and if your buttercream is too stiff your edges will look torn, but you can "fix" that easily, dip your fingers in a little powdered sugar or corn starch and tap then smooth.
To remove the excess sugar, you can brush it off with a little dry brush..OR even high light them witha little powdered food coloring...
Hope this helps!
I have tulip instructions I can e-mail too!
I think cheryl (ntertanyme) did a cake with tulips and has instructions also!
..that is a beautiful cake and one I would also like to make one day. I have sent you the tulip instructions!! We'll be waiting to see a pic of your cake! Have fun!!
I'm pretty certain that those tulips are gumpaste.
I made some very similar using the tulip cutter from the Wilton gumpaste cutter set. They're small and dainty and pretty simple.
I'd never done any gumpaste flowers before these and I got about 1 1/2 dozen of them done in 2 hours, or so. I dried them in egg cartons.
To be honest, my biggest problem was making the gumpaste from the Wilton powder. I was only making half a batch, was in a big hurry (I decided with less than 24 hrs. to delivery to do these--give yourself 2-4 days, at least, so that they can dry well), and was trial and erroring things right & left. I had a gummy mess that I had to have my son scrape off of my hands!
If you have all the tools you require to make gumpaste flowers, tulips are a great bloom to start with.
Have fun!
We shouldn't really dry any of our gumpaste in egg cartons, as we never know if it can get cross contaminated from the eggs shells.
I know the company washes the eggs, but remember what part of the chicken the egg comes from..lol!
lol, actually eggs can carry salmonella, so , no we should never use egg cartons whenever possible.
I have used egg cartons to dry some of my royal flowers in, but washed them in HOT soapy water and dried them well before using them. Shouldn't that take care of any bacteria problem?
you should still sanitize them, but if you've had no problem with using them, then use on!..lol
Thanks everyone, I will probably use a block of foam to stick the tulips in as they dry and I am going to purchase the flower cutter set from Michaels when I have the 40% off coupon. I figure I will have to make about 75+ of them but teh wedding isn't until March so I have time to give them a try first
Thanks
Only Gumpaste or Fondant would work...I used those plastic Easter Eggs, the one where you put candy in them.. and they come diffrent sizes too !
