So, I found a great recipe for vanilla bean cake mix for cupcakes I am doing for a baby shower in about two weeks. However, I would like to use real vanilla beans. I hate to order online and pay shipping, and there is an Amish bulk goods store that has them 2 for $6. Is there somewhere better to buy them? I haven't searched high and low but I definitely don't live in a big city by any means. TIA!
This was the best deal I found online..and free shipping!

Maryj is right. Vanilla products USA on ebay is great. For $30 I got 100's of beans to give as gifts and bake and make vanilla. They even threw in a different variety free. Very good deal. Very good beans.
I get mine the same place as jagar. They actually come from my favorite extract place, Olive Nation. The taste (in homemade vanilla extract) is something I had never tasted. They are excellent beans, and the correct ones for extract.

Thanks so much ladies! Not sure how I missed some of these deals! This looks much more promising than what I've come across. I just couldn't see coughing up $7 for 1-2 beans!
Wow, that's a great deal on ebay! I want to order some, but which one is better Madagascar or Tahitian? I've never used vanilla bean before.
Order the right amount of Madagascar and they throw in some Tahitian for free. Then you can try them both!
If you have a World Markeet in your area, I buy 2 for 2.98. They are not super plump, but the amount on seeds (or whatever the inside is called) is great for cakes and cupcake.

An extract tip: The plump beans are not the best for extract. They have more liquid and it takes away from the taste. A company should be able to direct you to the best bean for the particular job.
