Hi everyone,

I don't know why but this cake has me freaking out! I am doing this set up for a cake this upcoming weekend, and for some reason, I am crazy nervous about it. I will be doing the tiers as 6, 8,10 12 with a 6,8 inch styrofoam dummies for separators (bride wants top 2 tiers to be stacked on top of one another, without a separator - from the bottom it will be cake, separator, cake, separator, cake, cake). How would you go about the set up....centre dowel all the way through, ABS pipe attached to base board and thread the cakes on...? Any insight is much appreciated!

From the bottom:
Cake on base board with SPS plate and leg assembly inserted.
Stack separator on top.
Place cake on top of separator, skewer into separator, insert SPS plate and leg assembly.

I have done this very setup a few times in the past...and just this past Saturday (pic attached)! I use the pipe/flange assembly method exclusively and LOVE it! This cake was delivered assembled with no trouble and no worries! Everything was threaded onto the pipe (with appropriate supports in each tier)...easy peesy!

Although I have not had the best luck with the SPS system, others love and swear by it! So, use whatever method you're most comfortable with!

Good luck to you!

...for some reason, my attachment will not post! The cake I'm referring to is the most recent black/white damask cake in my gallery!

Thanks for the replies! I am in Canada and don't have access to SPS unless I order it online so that option is out for this cake.
Cambo - what do you use for the rod (size wise) (My hubby will love the excuse to go "browse" the hardware store for me....somehow I foresee more than just what I need coming home! lol)

I will see if my pictures will attach here (as I shared my pipe-flange assembly on another forum). But, I have found great success in using 3/4" PVC pipe, or 1/2" if you prefer! I use a 1/2" wooden base, screw the metal pipe flange to the board, then use a plastic slip-thread adapter that will screw into the pipe flange, but allow the PVC to slip into the open end (see pic). I also purchased a cheap pair of PVC cutters....a true God-send! They cut the PVC like butter!

Darn it! My pics will not attach! Send me an email at [email protected] and I can send all of them to you! They show assembly from start-to-finish!
