I have seen people talking about The Mat making their life with fondant so much easier- I would like to find more info on it but I want to be sure I am looking at the right product. Where can I find The Mat???

OMG THANK YOU FOR THAT LINK!! JUST ORDERED THE MAT! Its so much cheaper then the ATCO brand mat, and its double sided!! I did priority mail so I can't wait to get it in a few days! I am giddy now
Sweet wise is the maker of the mat, and I think she sells it cheaper than caljava, but you def should get it, I had mine for two months, and finally used it last week, it makes your fondant life, so much easier
I have used "the mat" several times and I love it. It makes things run so much smoother and saves tons of time!

chris- def check out that link i posted above- there is a troubleshooting video in the youtube page that talks about problems incurred when using the mat. they say the more you use it the better it gets as far as working with the fondant- it needs to be "seasoned" properly and such.
I can't say how much I LOVE "The Mat"! It makes it so much easier to roll out your fondant & cover your cake. I am getting ready to order a second one becuase I accidentally scratched my first one.
I most definitely love mine. I have three other brands, plus store bought vinyl, gathering dust in the bottom of my cake closet.
The only difficulty I found in use was getting the the two pieces congruent to roll up properly for storage. I solved that minor problem by purchasing a second mailing tube. In one corner of the seasoned inside, I wrote the word "inside" and covered it with a small piece of cello tape. I repeated the same with the other. Now since they are rolled separately, I know which sides go together.
I cannot praise its value enough. I only wish I had found it sooner and saved the expense in purchasing so many lesser products.

Yes, I only use MMF & it works perfectly. It makes cake life so much easier.
I am a CT Tech in real life and just make cakes as a hobby. I love it and have no trouble using it. Saves lots of time.
Just an update - received my Mat on Monday, used it last night. I can tell that I will like it, but it will take some practice and I understand about the seaoning. The tier was easier than the first. I used Duff fondant and it stuck a little. This caused it to stretch as it was releasing and I have two little tears on the top of my cake. Fortunately, they are right about where the second tier will sit, so I am not really worried. I am curious, though, about cleaning it. Mine now has BC on it. When it stretched across the top, it moved some of the buttercream and there was a slight blowout on the ending side (square cake). Do I just wipe it of? I don't think I want to wash it, right? I'm not really sure.
I love the concept, and I think with more practice I will really love this too!
sweet wise says you can wash it with warm soapy water- but make sure you get all the soap off and dry it with lint free paper towels.
I bought one and didn't like it at first because it kept putting little pock marks on my fondant. Make sure you season it properly. I think I had to much shortening on mine but now it works like a charm. It helped me blaze through my 10 cakes I had to cover last weekend.

Thanks for that info, mine did the same. Everyone kept telling me it's because I used to much color or mixed it wrong, etc. But when I rolled it without the mat it no pock marks! I guess I will keep working at it!
I like the ease of using the Mat, but I have had the same problems. Little pock marks on the cake or little pockets of air that make indents on my cake that I cannot smooth out for the life of me. I used pre-colored fondant, so I know its not a matter of my mixing in color.
I have purchased three sets of The Mat. The first two ended up getting pock marked and I cant use them anymore. They started making them thicker to deal with the problem so I ordered a third set. Its working out pretty good, but I still get some marks/indentations/air bubble marks on my fondant.
I still use it, however, because it makes life easier and kepts the fondant from drying out. Sweetwise also has really great customer service and everyone who I have dealt with from the company has been absolutely lovely.
Another tip per sweet wise for air bubble problems- add the tiniest dusting of powdered sugar, that will allow the mat to raise slightly and let the air escape when u continue rolling. Ive watched every video sweet wise video on you tube which is why i sound like a spokesperson lol
I love mine, the only issue I have is rolling the thing up and getting it to fit back into the tube. I do have a question though, cleaning it, do I just use soap and water and hang dry it, and then season it again? Or should I just wipe it clean? Thanks! Oh yeah, I purchased mine from sweetwise, and the video online really helped. I think I watched it a hundred times!
I am lucky enough to live in Nashville, home of SweetWise, and I have never done a fondant cake without the mat. The only problem I had with mine was that I don't do THAT many cakes, so my mat got ridges in it after I rolled it up. Kathy at Sweetwise told me to roll it up differently each time I use it and it won't get ridges in it. I clean mine off after 2 or 3 uses, if you roll it up afterward and put it in the tube, it stays clean. If you live within an hour radius of Nashville, I highly recommend SweetWise's classes. They also do Groupons for classes, so every once in a while check out Nashville's Groupons. I'm taking a cupcake class there in a few weeks.
I found the easiest way to roll it, is to use the large Wilton fondant rolling pin as a guide. I just let the rolling pin sit out a few inches from the edge (so I can remove it later) and roll the mats tightly around it. Helps keep from getting ridges and its the perfect width to fit back into the tube.
I also had a problem with the two sides lining up. Also, I immiediately got creases in mine which ultimately made creases in my fondant when I rolled it out. I haven't used it since. Anyone have any tips for remedying that?
