Hello all! well its time to invest in an airbrush gun and compressor. theres a lot out there but i want to know which is really really good for cake decorating. i have a budget of $500 so price is not really an issue. please help!

awesome thanks! but what model would you recommend. thats the thing, idont know which is good for what. i know absolutely nothing about airbrush.
I took an airbrush class at a cake show recently and got to keep the airbrush and compressor, which was a pegasus model. It comes in a green and white box, has the compressor, airbrush already assembled, plug for the wall, has three different speeds(high, medium, low). I am a total beginner, but this is easy to use and costs about $139 from what I've seen at global sugar art and other places. You WILL need an airbrush spray booth because I did a pink cake and there was a faint film over just about everything in my kitchen! Lol. It wasn't terrible, but it's like you wipe something down and everything keeps coming up whatever color you used. And I airbrushed three cakes too....hope this helps!

I got this one http://www.thefoamstudio.com/products/GCK02-%252d-Tritium.TS-Airbrush-Combo-Kit-.html because I like that the cups can go on the side. If you can find somewhere to go play around with an airbrush, you can figure out what you like and don't like before purchasing. I got to play with it when I went to a cake show last year and decided when I went to another show this year I would purchase it.

Just a funny ha ha, my husband airbrushed a cake for me the other day and I sat and watched him, shotly later, I sneezed. I ran to get a tissue and when I blew my nose, it was all orange! The exact same color the cake was, lol. Lesson learne: beware of breathing in overspray!

If you airbrush cakes a lot, this is where the airbrush booth helps.
What is an airbrush booth? When I was at the Wilton school I changed my motto from "you are not cake decoarting unless you have food colors on your hands" to "you know you are not cake decorating until you are snotting rainbows" basically because I was blowing my nose with purple coming out, one of my friends had pink and black, another had orange, green and yellow. It was funny but would love to not have to worry about that all the time ya know.

At the Wilton School they had a Kopykake. I have not tried this one but it comes with the first set of colors and then you could use more money toward the other colors you want. I am waiting to get a whole set of shimmer sprays.
I just google airbrush cake decorating and there´s a page that has different airbrushes and different prices. mine was about 180 but it had 2 guns for precised touches and looks like a shiny pen and one plastic which has a larger container for paint if u need to airbrush larger areas, also it contained a box with 12 different colors. An airbrushed cake seems to be more real. Good luck! It´s one of my cake decorating toys that i really love!!!

I have an Iwata and I just love it!
my husband just got me one for mothers day. he got me the iwata eclipse and just a basic compressor. i havent used it yet but i tried it out and its bad a$$. cant wait to use it this weekend! thanks!
Thanks for the link, I checked it out and it looks awesome and now I want one. LOL. As for my airbrush I have now used it and am selling it to a former student. I am NOT good using a dual action brush, so I am going to possibly purchase the KopyKake one that we used at the Wilton School. It was a single action which I liked a lot better. I need one that I control the air pressure at the compressor and only have to deal with color coming from the brush.
