Hello,
I have a bride who provided me with a photo of a cake she wants. I met with her today and her mom approved the cake. (mom is paying). It is a different cake. it s 3 tier and it had fondant "doilies" on the cake whole ones and half ones. They stand up and they litteraly cover the whole cake so all you see are the doilies. Very stunning and unusual cake.

I have looked on a number of websites and can only find the border that looks like a doilie. These doilies appear that they are about 3 inches..maybe 4 at the biggest It is quite a stunning cake.. will be easy to do but I just can't locate a mold. I don't know if I could use a regular or small plastic doilie as an impression matt or not. I would appreciate any help on this. The ake isn't due until the end of July but I want to get all my ducks in order on the few weeks that I don't have things going on.

if i understand you right, the doilies look like lace and are stiff and standing up, it would be my guess that they are probably made out of royal icing, you could use a lace rubber mold, fill with royal icing, let dry then gently pop them out of mold.

it could be gumpaste as well. but cakes I have seen are made with royal icing lace doilies.
