There is a thread on this on c/c. The poster said if you had mtc, not to update it. It would not work. A lawsuit has been settled. They also said if you didn,t have scal(sure cuts alot) to get it now. That the same thing is happening with them. hth

Yes there was a lawsiut that got settled provocraft won they want you to keep buying
their cartridges so if you updated your MTC program you won't be able to use it anymore. but this is only with all the cricuts like the expression ,cricut cake. if you own any other kind of cutting machines you can still use the MTC program with no problems. I got the MTC like 4 months ago and never updated the program, but I am thinking about selling my cricut cake and buying the silhouette cutting machine for this same reason. i don't want to spend money buying all this cricut cartridges. good luck

What version is the update? I want to be sure I don't update to it. You should be able to restore your computer to a previous date (before the update).

You updated MTC or your cricut firmware? As of yesterday firmware v2.34 was still ok to use.

Someone else on here was having issues with updating MTC. She had the original MTC software disks still so she just uninstalled and reinstalled. If you're like me though you downloaded MTC directly and don't have any disks. You'll have to restore your computer like tiggy2 mentioned.

Sorry that happened, you'll want to restore your computer to the day before you updated your software, There are lots of helpful sites with directions if you google "system restore to earlier date and the version of your operating system"

I'm so mad that provocraft is doing this! The make the cut software was the only reason I got their machine! I'm making a backup disk of my software just my computer crashes or something.

DO NOT update your cricut firmware either as Provo Craft has also changed that so it wont work with older versions of MTV. Your best bet is to get a Silhouette as it works great with MTC and has the print and cut feature.

leafo, maybe you could tells others how to make a backup disk of their MTC software so they can do the same.

There are a couple of different ways you could make a backup copy of your software.

You can find the files you want to copy by going to: **See Correction below**

You can use a small usb drive or a blank CD.

For the USB drive just insert the drive and it may open a window automatically or you may need to click on it to open one. Then just copy the file "make the cut" to the window open for your usb drive.

For a CD your computer will open a prompt window when you insert the CD. Select "burn files to disk" and it will walk you through the cd setup and open a window. Copy your files to the open window and click 'burn' which will appear at the top of the window.

be sure to write down you product key number you use to register your software so you can input it when you re install.

I hope that makes sense, let me know if that was too confusing, lol icon_smile.gif

**correction** - I've been told copying the program files won't work, the file you need to copy is the MTCInstall.exe file you first downloaded. It should be in your download or temp files. You can do a search by typing it in the search box on the start menu.

Sorry for the confusion icon_redface.gif

You will need to copy ALL of the files as well as the exe file for it to work. I just put it all on a usb stick then tried it on DHs computer and it worked just fine icon_smile.gif

i was looking to buy the cricut cake because of this software only. i find cricut products to be very expensive and limiting as is. i guess i will have to research another cutter.

The silhouette is definately the way to go. Get it from Linda so you get the special blade and housing. I have both the cricut cake and the silhouette and the silhouette is far superior. Linda & Jeff also offer excellent customer service.
