I have my first bridal show coming up in March. I'm doing a tiered round cake that's more of a classic style cake and I have a 4 tiered square cake that I would like to be more of a whimsical/modern look. I was thinking of doing an autumn theme with leaves, pumpkins, acorns, etc. Is it stupid to do an autumn theme for a spring bridal show? I would tend to think that the people there might be looking for cakes for their fall weddings, but maybe I am way off base. Thoughts?
If I was you I would do spring theme, and have it on display. Maybe a photo album with other cakes. But not a Fall theme.
Heck, I did a Halloween wedding cake for a spring bridal show!
As a bride, I wouldn't wait until the last minute to shop for ideas. As a bride, I would be frustrated if all spring bridal shows had nothing but spring looks. I would be upset thinking, "don't ANY of these people think about we brides who are actually planning ahead?!!!!"
while its hard to have something for everyone, its a good idea to have a variety of styles and designs.
Debi, that's exactly what I was thinking! I am a planner at heart, so if I were a bride with an autumn wedding I'd be really bummer if I didn't get to see cakes that went along with that theme.
Thanks for the replies, ladies!
I agree with having a fall themed cake at a spring bridal show too. Even if brides aren't booking a cake yet, they're still looking. Plus with a lot of people just getting engaged in December and February these people are going to be planning weddings all through the year.
As a bride i would rather see a variety of styles to know that someone could do multiple things instead of all one theme (whether it be traditional, spring, summer, fall, winter, whimsical etc..)
