There was a post about gelatin bubbles that was here...now it's gone? Looks like it's in a private holding forum? Where did it go??

It got deleted. Nobody knows why. We just read the terms and conditions that are subject to deletion and that thread had none of those issues, so again, I don't understand how they're moderating around here.

Good reason to copy out good instructions. I think you mention more than once something being posted instruction wise not being posted here on CC and away it goes. Go figure. Because lots of good information gets lost too. Why can't individual posts be deleted I stead of the whole thing?

Maybe that's why...b/c the instructional video is on affiliated with another site.. That's a shame.

It's true, the instructional video is associated with another site, yet NOBODY was selling or pushing it! Even the gal who did the video said to PM her for more information. I don't know, it just seems silly to me to put rules down then selectively enforce them.

Long ago there was a lawsuit. I think the bubbles link involved sugarcraft site (one word). Anything that has to do with that name gets deleted, and you can't type the two words together at this site. If you google sugarcraft as one word and cake central, you'll find the reason for it.

Just google "gelatin flowers sugarcraft (together as one word)" and you'll get the gelatin instructions.

I also have 4 screenshots of the important things that were said about making the bubbles, especially instructions by BlakesCakes. I make screenshots and PDFs of threads a lot, because I know a lot gets deleted.

It's not just the thread on the bubbles that has gone away. There have been alot of threads that have been nothing more than just questions and answers for help on all subject that have been disappearing. I get a notice that there is a new post and when I click on it, they're gone, sometimes several in a day. I'm very confused.

The other day someone posted about losing her grandmothers nut filled cookie recipe and could anyone help her find one that was similar. I know two different recipes were posted (one that I use), and when there was a reply to it, I went in and it was gone.

The original instructions so kindly copy & pasted by bobwonderbuns from yenrcakes are part of the extensive How to make Gelatin Bows & Flowers thread which remains 100% intact. icon_smile.gif

In fact, I linked to that info in this thread:

Thanks Jan! I actually just found it and was going to cut and paste the post for yen4ckes dated 5/14/10:

Could you let me know the details of the book to which you are referring - I'm very keen to learn more too. In the meantime here is info on making bubbles out of gelatine:

I learnt this technique at a workshop by Mary-Ann Gonsalves. Her notes can be found in the Australian [blocked] Magazine December 2008 Vol 20 No 2. Sorry they keep blocking part of the title here - if you want the reference I will email it to you as this is the 5th time I've tried to put it in the text here for you. My notes incorporate her technique and a few of my interpretations. Gela Boons: Dissolve 1 part gelatine (Davis) to 2 parts hot water in heat proof bowl - deep enough to dip a balloon that is the size of gelaboon you wish to achieve. Gently stir (to avoid creating bubbles) until gelatine is dissolved. Can place bowl in baine marie or use microwave to heat/reheat. Can include colour as desired in water measurement. Use Qualatex helium balloons for the least amount of explosions - if you get a mess let it get tacky then peel off otherwise BIG difficult mess to clean. Have your balloons inflated ahead of time. Use a balloon pump (for hygiene) to achieve desired size and tie a knot. Attach balloon to cup and stick. Have an oasis ready (my hubby made me a plank of wood with holes drilled) to stand the sticks in - with enough space so balloons don't touch. Once covered in gelatine the ballons get heavy. Mary-Ann Gonsalves recommends lightly and evenly spraying the balloons with oil (i.e. canola) and then blotting the surface evenly and gently with a paper towel before dipping into the gelatine. I didn't use oil as I had a lot of trouble achieving a full coverage of the balloon with gelatine. WIthout the oil it takes a little more encouragement to release the balloon. Dip balloon in gelatine (make sure it is comfortable to touch and not hot or "bang"). Use a rolling/ twisting motion to get full coverage. With a larger size balloon you may need to pour the gelatine over. With a sweeping motion remove the balloon and stand upright and allow to dry inserted in oasis. Do not drip the excess gelatine back into the bowl as you will get millions of little bubbles. You can actually achieve deeper colour and stronger gelaboons by dipping two or three times - this should be done after allowing the gelatine to "dry" until tacky - then redip using same method. Depending on the weather and number of layers the gelaboon will dry hard overnight or over several days. To remove balloon, remove gelaboon from stick and gently remove cup. Pop the balloon with a pin or scissors and remove. Trim gelaboon with scissors to tidy the hole - this can be disguised with the use of royal icing or fondant.

Ok, don't look so much at the cake as this was done for a last minute party for a friend, and I wasn't feeling well, so it's not my best. However, you can look at the bubbles and judge for yourself. http://s314.photobucket.com/albums/ll426/ShelbyLynnCakes/?action=view¤t=ChampagneBucket2.jpg These were my first attempt at making bubbles. So, if you think my attempt at bubbles is worth it, just let me know and I'll send you the information on how I made them.
