Clay Extruder - What Have You Used Yours For?

After a three week wait, my new extruder arrived a couple of hour ago... w00t!!
Now, what can I do with it? Lol.... I hadn't thought that far ahead! I bought it because I wanted to make hair with it, but am not sure what else I can do with all these discs.
I know I can make a triple rope to twist around, and make little bricks. but that's all I've seen so far.
Can anyone tell me what sort of things you've done with yours?
I have the green Makin one, btw.
I think I have the same one you had. But I've only used it once I used it to make the thread on the spools of thread on my Cinderella cake. Boring, I know! Hopefully I'll get the chance to use it on something cool!
Ive made stiches for my frankenstein cake, a thin round border for my make a wish cake and I think thats it so far. Kinda boring but I love it!
oh, and I thought I'd try making sugar sticks out of them, to use with modelling figures etc.
Does anyone know, am I supposed to rub the shortening into the gumpaste, or rub it on the outside of the blob I am about to feed into it?
LOVE my extruder! We use it to outline & give a pop to many designs. The rope is great
I rub it all over! also, I used mine to make cursive! check it out

also the eyebrows and the outlines of the mouth and nose. you can also use it if you want to make balls the same size. just make one long rope, measure how long you want to cut each, let's say and inch each, and you will have the same amount of fondant for each ball and thus each one will be uniformed. ill write more if I can think of more.
btw how do you make bricks?
Love my Makins green extruder, so much easier to make ropes now. I have used if for hair, grass, borders, even made bamboo with it, well it sorta looked like bamboo.
oh... it's like a licorice strip alternative!!
I haven't made bricks yet, but I read that you can use teh square end to push out a long rectangle, then cut it into bricks to stack. Obviously an impression mat would be quicker, but it's good to have options if you don't have an impression mat!
Good tip about the balls! I recently read another tip for making balls the same size. Roll out the fondant flat, then use a cutter (any cutter) to cut a stack of shapes, which you then roll into balls. Since they're all the same shape/size, you can guarantee they all contain the same amount of fondant.

I tried it out tonight! As I had nothing in particular to make with it, I pumped out a whole bunch of sugar sticks to use with modelling. They are drying now, hopefully it's a success!
Any other ideas people? This thing cost me $65, I've gotta get at least $5 use out of it... lol
I bought it to make a thin rope border for a cake I'm making but so far I have no other ideas. I can't wait to start working with it though!
I only have one of the little metal ones for clay work but I have used it for making thin ropes which I then some of them I paint - in my photos. Also for the fringing for the edge of a flag - hubby had to do the extruding for that as it was quite fine and too hard for me to do !!! I soften my fondant in the microwave and then roll into a tube and put into the extruder - I am not sure what the one you have looks like but I bet its easier on the hands than my one.
I have used mine to make guitar strings, stems for flowers, hair for figures, ropes for borders, grass...
Just work plenty of shortening into the fondant so it goes through easily.
