I'm planning on using an edible image on fondant to make a "blanket". Can I fold or drape the fondant after I apply the edible image?
This is also going to be my first try with an edible image. Any tips?
Thanks so much. You guys are all awesome!!!!
You might be able to drape it, but I think folding it would tear the image. I haven't worked A LOT with them, only a few, but the first time I did it, was holding onto the edge of my edible image and it started to melt in between my finger tips - so, just a tip, don't hold onto it too tightly for too long!!
Yes, you'll be able to drape the fondant after the image is applied. Make sure your fondant is rolled very thin. Don't try to bend or fold TOO much or the image may tear. Using shortening instead of water to attach your image will give you even more flexibility.
Apply either a spritz of water to fondant (not wet!!) OR piping gel (also in a very small amount) this will help the image adhere and also become moist enough to bend or fold. Give it a little time once attached for it to adhere and the image to take in a little moisture.
Hope that helps.
Oh also do not print until you are ready to use. As any extra exposure and the icing sheets are drying out.
You may even try a little steam on the underside of the fondant (not on the image top) to help it along. (I have never tried that, but it may work)
Hope that helps.

Thanks guys! I'm so nervous! I'll be posting pictures next week. Her birthday is next friday but she'll be getting her cake thursday...
Dianes tips were right on target! Crisco works the best for this as it allows the image to have more flexability on the fondant.
