I made a two tier cake this past weekend. I covered it in MMF. When we went to cut the cake the top icing on the lower cake stuck to the cake board under the top tier.

How can I prevent that? I am making a castle cake (covered in MMF) this weekend for my daughter and I don't want that sticky disaster AGAIN!

Thanks

You can use a circle of waxed paper.

Ditto on the wax paper. I don't use MMF, but I had the same problem with buttercream. The top tier would pull all of the icing right off the bottom tier. I started cutting a piece of wax paper the same size as the top tier cake board and it works like a charm!

I tried wax paper once and it moved when i put top tier on and i had to pull out, so now I just sprinkle some CS under, and i dont have a problem. I still think the wax paper is a good idea, just to be sure.

I have used PS before and it worked great. Made sure the MMF is complete dry first.

Also with buttercream.. make sure it has crusted first. (that is if you are using crusting icon_biggrin.gif )

It won't move if you attach it with a smear of icing (on both sides). You need to stick it to the cake first, and add another smear to the top of the paper to prevent the top tier from sliding around.
