I am currently working on my first 3d car so I can't help much but, I'm using both cake and rice treats. I'll keep you up dated and send you a picture try not to laugh to hard
i wont laugh ..i promise!! lol..im thinking of doing a tester just to see if i can do it..im worried cus they want it really detailed with a scoop hood..i have no idea what that is but ill ask my husband later,lol..im thinking to freeze it to carve it..good luck with your cake..cant wait to see it
I did a pratice and I need to do another one. But, I see where I went wrong but pratice makes perfect. ( i hope) About to make some rice treats now so I guess I'll start carving tonight but the details is important. Pull the picture up on the net that helps alot.
Maybe these links will help you, they helped me when I made my car cake.

When is it due? If its a while from now I would strongly recommend Mike McCarey's car cake dvd. It is super helpful with the details. I just made my first car cake (actually it was a pick up truck) a couple months ago. I didn't have the dvd at the time but I had some step by step instructions from some very helpful people here on cc. And it turned out quite well. I have since purchased Mike's dvd and it is super helpful.

The cake should definitely be chilled. Its easier to carve that way. You need templates of your model printed from the computer. I have found that I like making the wheels out of modeling chocolate. I didn't use any rice crispies. You can pm me if you have any questions.
i 2nd the suggestion for Mike's dvd. I just finished watching it last weekend and boy was it informative!
