How do I make a border out of fondant that looks like rope. I've seen it alot on this website and it kind of looks like a two strand twist. Is that something I have to do manually or is there a tool i can use? icon_confused.gif

And you use the tip that looks like 3 circles overlapping. Once it's extruded you place one hand on each end and roll the opposite way, left hand rolls forward , right hand rolls back and that will twist it so it looks like a rope. Super easy and the Makin Clay Extruder is super easy to use.

Can you buy the extruder at michaels/hobby lobby or do you have to order them?

let me ask.. do you warm your fondant first in microwave or just palm it until it is pliable? I was a little timid about over heating the fondant in microwave and having this sticky gooes mess in the extruder.

A clay extruder would be better (I've seen tips to soften the fondant with some crisco too) but you can just do it by hand. Roll out sausages, and the roll them with a fondant smoother to even them out.

Michaels no longer carries this one. They do have another brand but I don't know how well it works.

Hobby Lobby does have it though in their clay section.

If it is sticky, ooey, and gooey when it comes out of the microwave, let it cool until it doesn't burn your hands and is workable.

Does anyone happen to know how much that extruder is going to cost?

I think they are around $25 at Hobby Lobby. I used a 40% off coupon when I got mine.

I've got the shiny metal one she shows to compare how much larger the one she uses is. I don't bake professionally (just look!) so it does the job for me. But she's right, you need some strong hands if your fondant/gumpaste is not soft enough.
