Crusting Bc Cracking

Has anyone had this problem? I made 2 tiers for tomorrow and the top of the smaller one has a hair line crack going through it and I dont know what to do....what if they crack all over??

If it's just the icing developing cracks, it usually means that there isn't enough support under that tier.
The cracks develop when the cake is moved around, especially if you pick the cake (on it's board) up by the edges.

It never hurts to double up on cake cardboards, if that's what you use. I use 3/16th inch foamcore boards and haven't had this problem.

Im pretty sure it isnt the supports.. I have a cake board and cake platters under each one. they arent even elevated right now, totally flat on the table....

Try smoothing it out with a Viva paper towel...good luck.

Can you smooth crusting BC after it has crusted with viva???

Yes, it won't work if it's not crusted yet...the towel would stick to the icing.

The frosting is too crusted over to smooth with a viva...can i do anything with water? Kind of freaking out here... Please HELP

I guess I would pipe a little in the crack and try to fill it in and smooth again.
