Can anyone give me detail instructions on how to make an open lid tiffany box cake with tissue paper in between? the lid needs to be edible and slightly raised.

I need this ASAP guys!!!

Thanks.

It seems we are having the same problem for this weekend. I did see a post on this site that shows a jewerly box lid made of styrofoam. I don't use styrofoam in my cakes. If you get a good reply please pass it on and I will do the same.

on this cake I did a couple of years ago I rolled out gumpaste really thing and then formed it over a cake board. Elevated the cake board on a smaller tupperware container and let the gumpaste dry. Once dry I was able to remove the cake board and I had a "lid"

As for the tissue paper, i just rolled out fondant relaly thin, cut it into odd shape squares, grabbed the middle and the pulled up the outsides of the square. I then just placed them on the cake and tucked them under the lid where i needed to.

Thanks Leily. That sounds simple enough. I thought the lid was a one layer cake covered in fondant that was just sitting in top of the box cake with some sort of separator between them.

Some people have done it this way too. For me I didn't need the extra cake and liked that I could adjust the "lid" a lot easier without worrying about cake sliding off the board.

If you want it to be cake then you can just do one that is anywhere from 1/2" - 1" tall (depending on the size of the box and what would look right) and then put it on a board and use dowels to support it at the angle you want.

Could also use rice krispy treats, wouldn't have to worry about them "sliding" if you wanted it at more of an angle.
