I've also found that a fan helps too. Keeping the air circulating helps the gumpaste to dry faster.

I have use a food dehydrator for leaves and flower petals. Fans work great as well but start with a fast drying paste with tylose in it.

I purchased a screen which is meant to be used to put on a frying pan to avoid the oil from splating everywhere, I place my stuff to dry on there so the air is on both sides.

I also use my dehydrator set on the lowest setting. Works great!

I don't know how fast you need for them to dry, but I made the figures for my Mario cake then night before the cake was due using gumpaste only and they dried overnight sittiing on the counter. I've used the oven light for fondant/gumpaste mix but for straight gumpaste I've never had to do that. I do use Wilton premade gumpaste, maybe that's why mine dries so fast. I've never used any other gumpaste.
