Twilight/new Moon Cake Help

For those of you that have made Twilight Cakes and used the ruffled/parrot tulip flower that is on the New Moon book cover. Where did you get it? Real or Fake? If you made it, how did you do it?

I've called around to my local florist....but no luck.

I think you should make it in 3d with fondant (or MMF)

I made mine out of gumpaste using this tutorial. I thinned the edges until they had the feathered effect and painted the red once the petals had dried.
