There may be other tutorials for spiral carved cakes, but I honestly didn't take the time to look it up. icon_razz.gif

Anyway, here's how I do it. For this cake, I used a 9" and 6" round.

I sure did. There is a cardboard cake circle under the upper tier and four bubble tea straws under that for support.

Do the two "roads" connect at the back of the cake, where the top of the bottom tier meets the bottom of the top tier?

Yes, you'll want to line them up so that the bottom of the top tier meets with the top of the bottom tier.
