After hearing so much of Bettercreme I decided to journey to a Sam's Club and get some...when I went over to the bakery, they only have something called But-R-creme, pre-whipped in a 28lb. bucket...I was in doubt and describe that I heard of a cream called bettercreme that you dont need to refrigerate after putting on cakes or cupcakes...then they say it was and after you put it on your baked goods it will last up to 5 days on room-temperature...

I went on and bought it...probably cost me like $1.20 a pound...and I havent used it yet...but wondering if anyone used it and if it's similar to Bettercreme icon_confused.gifthumbs_up.gif

Rich's Bettercreme is a whipped non-dairy frosting/filling that is sold in two formulations:

RTU - Ready To Use (prewhipped) in buckets at the Sam's Club bakeries

Semi-frozen liquid in qts. you whip yourself - (looks like milk carton) from GFS (Gordon Food Service) or cake decorating stores, or online.

Sam's bakeries also use a regular buttercream usually from Dawn Foods which is called But-R-Creme. These two products are entirely different.

You and I must be on the same wavelength. I just went to my Sam's Club and bought some Rich's.

I've heard of some people leaving Sam's with the bUtercream instead of bEttercreme, so I just asked for the whipped topping. If you look at their cake pricing, the icing options include "whipped." It cost me $19.34 for the 15lb bucket.

I'm soooo sorry. I've heard about some folks having luck with the mock bettercreme on CC. I don't know what the recipe is though.

If you think you might be making another trip to Sam's, definitely call ahead first! Sometimes during the holidays they run out quickly. I almost left without any bettercreme but the lady in the bakery department called me back when she realized a new shipment was being loaded into the store.

Maybe someone you know might be in the Sam's area and can pick some up for you. Good luck with the baking venture.

I think you'll still find a use for the Sam's club but-r-cream. I find it works really well. No air bubbles, crusts well for smoothing using Viva method. I love the flavor, but not everyone does. So change it up if you have flavorings on hand.

If you search for Sam's Club, you'll probably find pages and pages of posts on the kind of buttercream you ended up with.

thanks for the comfort...my family and friends like light creams, so Bettercreme seemed like the best option...now I just have to hope they like the But-R-creme...

If they're like me, they'll notice and appreciate a good cake, then the icing is just, well, the icing on the cake icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif So I'm sure it will turn out fine!

I would love to try the mock bettercreme recipe, but I did a search, and came up with nothing (that seems to happen a lot for me). If anyone can tell me where it is, or who posted it, I would be very grateful!!! icon_biggrin.gif

I have the same problem Cathy. Searches (on this site) don't work at all on our PC, but work fine on my laptop and work PC. I don't know if it's a compatibility issue with the browsers or what. icon_sad.gificon_sad.gif

I've felt silly sometimes because I've had to ask people to do searches for me.

The Sam's Clubs offer a choice of whipped or buttercream frostings on their cakes, so they have both.

You had a 50/50 chance of randomly picking the right one. icon_smile.gif If you read the Dawn Bet-R-Creme thread, a lot a members regularly purchase Sam's buttercream so they don't have to make their own.
