I made a wrestling cake for my nephews birthday. I made a RIT of the symbol and I loved how it turned out. I put it on the cake last night and when I woke up this morning it had bleed and now the white letters are pink. I have an extra so I am going to replace it right before we leave for the dinner party but can anyone tell me why it happened? I am thinking I didnt let the black lines dry well enough, but I made the transfers on Wed and they didnt run until I put it in the cake. The icing is buttercream. Should I have waited to put it on?

TIA

My attachments are too big please look in my photos for the cake!! Thanks

Yes, you should have wait, on buttercream you want to wait until the very last moment to put it there. Or you can build a "buffer" - put the RIT on sugar cubes, not touching the buttercream directly. Or flip your RIT and put thicker layer of white RI there. The problem are only dark colors - mostly black and red. It does take few hours for the problems to start.
It is much easier to make buttercream transfer when you want to lay it on buttercream frosting.

Thanks... I didnt even think about it bleeding. Hopefully I can lift it off and place the other one I made. I made extras so that is a good thing.

Or place your RIT on a piece of fondant. I like the idea of a thicker layer of RI though. Thanks for the tip!
