This may be a stupid question but does anyone know whether it is ok to insert a flower on a wire directly into the cake. I have read conflicting views on this. One book said that it is ok as long as the wire is wrapped in florist tape. Another source said not to inser the wire into the cake and to use flower spikes in the cake.
I am fairly new to gumpaste flowers and I don't want to make anyone sick. Any advice is GREATLY appreciated TIA
I never put the wire directly into the cake, wrapped in tape or otherwise. If you don't want to use flower spikes, you can use a drinking straw or hollow coffee stir. Some people also dip the wire in candy melts.
I have a latex allergy. If you put a floral taped wired in my cake piece I can have an allergic reaction. Sounds wierd, but I did try it myself to see what would happen. I started to swell like you have no idea. It is hard for me to work with the floral tape for the same reason. I would use a straw or floral pick/spike or posey pick. HTH
Hi, I always use a posy/flower pick when I need to insert wired flowers or starburst to the cake.
