Only if the cake decorator runs a side business as an event decorator.

When you buy a cake at a bakery, do they come to your house and decorate for the party? No, they provide the cake. Period.

When I deliver a cake, the table needs to be set and ready for me to just plop the cake down and leave. I am a baker ... not a linen rental company, not an interior designer, not an event coordinator.

If you do offer this service, be sure you charge extra for it..... for the materials, for your time, for your decorating skill. And for the inconvenience of getting your decorating materials back.

I am an event planner and NEVER have I expected the caterer or baker to decorate the cake table. I always set it for the arrival of the cake so it just needs to be set up on the cake stand or on the table and then they can leave me, the planner, to do the rest. Of course if I'm working the event AND the baker then I do both<G> but I'm not sure anyone else on here is both a baker and an event planner too.

I just re-read my above post and thought it sounded a little hateful and I just want to add that I didn't mean it to come across that way at all. i know there are cakers who do offer that service and I dont' want to sound like it's just a given that a caker never does the table. My apologies for the tone.

I think I get on my soapbox on stuff like this because I run into that type of thinking all the time.
- "Oh the caterer sets up the tables!" No, the caterer doesn't ... the hotel maintenance staff does that. I'm not a maintenance staff.
- "Oh the caterer cleans up the room afterward!" No, the caterer doesn't ... the hotel cleaning crew does that. I'm not a cleaning crew.
- "Oh the caterer always cuts the cake!" Only if you arrange it ahead of time with the caterer so we can discuss any cake cutting service fees.
- "Oh the caterer always provides the plates for the cake." Only if you BUY the cake from me. I dont' have an extra china cabinet in my van where I carry 200 extra plates "just in case" some bride doesnt' think ahead on how she's going to serve cake to her guests.

I'm just so tired of dealing with clients who think little magical elves take care of everything and those elves wear a chef jacket.

So that's why I kinda rant on this kind of thing. I am so sorry if it came across negative or grumpy.
