I CANT SEEM TO GET FONDANT NOT TO PLEAT AT THE BOTTOM OF
TOPSY TURVY OR TAPERED CAKES, I BAKE A MAD HATTER CAKE THAT
WAS LARGER IN DIAMETER AT THE TOP THEN BOTTOM AND COULD NOT
WORK THE PLEATS SMOOTH NO MATTER HO I TRIED, I TRIED LIFTING AND TRYING TO SMOOTH THEM IN BUT STILL ENDED UP WITH A SURPLUS
THAT I COULDNT SMOOTH, WHAT IS THE SECRET? I WAS USING THE
MARSHMELLOW RECEIPE FONDANT WHICH WAS A LITTLE MORE FRAGILE
THAN THE STORE BOUGHT BUT THE FLAVOR CANT BE BEAT. HELP!

Depending on how large/small the tapered tier is, and how sharp the decrease, it may be better to wrap the fondant around the tier, with a seam in the back and trimming the top and bottom to fit. Sugarshack Sharon shows us how this is done in her Totally Topsy Turvy DVD.
