I have run out of Tylose and someone told me I could use denture powder in place of Tylose with my fondant to make it firm. Has anyone ever tried this and if so how did it work?

I did have an instructor that told us the same thing - people use it on their dentures so it isn't toxic (and most folks don't eat the gumpaste stuff anyways) I wonder if they have about the same ingredients.......(and I cannot remember which person told me that - sorry)

gross! I'm sorry I just don't think that sounds right. I would make a trip to the store if I were you.

It's a pretty original idea - smart person who first tried iticon_smile.gif I agree it probably wouldn't be toxic - but the eewwww factor is a bit too much for me to do it. I'd rather have limp flowers on a cake than sturdy fixodent flowersicon_smile.gif

Thanks linedancer - if squirrleycakes used it, I would have no trouble doing it if need be.

You are welcome, I just happened to remember seeing something about it awhile back, I have never tried it.

I tried it before, b/c I couldn't order anything online and couldn't find tylose locally. It gave the fondant a minty aroma. I definitely wouldn't use it on a piece that anyone was going to eat but otherwise would have no problem using it. It didn't seem to make it as stiff as tylose does though.
