I am making a cake for this weekend and I have to make a double batch for one of the tiers so I have enough for the pans. I was going to make cupcakes with the leftover batter. I was wondering if I could freeze the cupcakes and use them next week for my twin girls birthday treats at school. I was planning on freezing them BEFORE I frost them and just take them out a day ahead to decorate. Has anyone had success doing this before? I tried searching the threads, but couldn't find anything and I don't have much extra time to find the answer. If I use papers to bake the cupcakes would they get wet and yucky after they thaw out from freezing? Anyone know the best way to freeze them (wrap each individual one up and put them all in a container?) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

I imagine if you wrap them the same way you would a cake it would be just fine!

Cling wrap then foil. or Cling then an airtight container.

Yes thats what I do, I wrap each one with saran wrap & that way you can date them with marker. Then put into a plasttic container & burp out air. I use cup cakes for tastings. I save the gallon plastic ice cream buckets & use this.

Yes, you can successfully freeze cupcakes. I place them in doubled zipper freezer bags. They come out moist and delicious. Just let them come to room temp while still in the closed bags.

wow, thanks for that story. I can't imagine frosting that many cupcakes! What a good idea though to have one big party for all your kids at once. I'm sure it saved you some money.

I freeze mine all the time..especially for my cupcake cake as they are easier to handle on the board etc when they are frozen. If they are fresh they tend to crumble and squish more easily. And you can do them in advance!!
