I am terrible at math and converting. Can you please tell me how many cups of Hi-Ratio shortening is in 1 pound?

Mikel79 - I had to go look that one up - as we are all metric over here -


1 Cup Shortening = 250 gms = 8 ounces.

16 ounces = 1 pound = 2 cups

I've weighed my Sweetex Hi Ratio. One cup weighs 7 ounces.

So, a pound would be 2 cups + 2/7 cups (about 5 TBSP).

Yes the 5 ml can definitely make a difference when your measuring in Tbsp.


I did the math for shortening a while back because I hated having to clean the measuring cups. and I mine and BlakesCakes are almost exactly the same.

This is what I came up with. have done the math with shortening and it I worked it out to be 2 1/3 cups to one pound of shortening. so basically only 1 teaspoon/1/3 tbsp different than BlakesCakes.


1 pound should be 454 grams = 16 oz.

I had figured (from a label) that 1 cup was the same as approx 194.5 g which would then make it 6.9 oz per cup.

16/6.9 oz = 2 1/3 cups

or 454/194.5 g= 2 1/3 cups
