I need to find out more information on having insurance for a cake business. I am looking at basic insurance that will cover the shop but also protect against customer lawsuits. Does anyone out there have any tips, ideas and how much I might expect to pay for a service like this? From what I have found it runs around $1200 year. But I am not sure if that only will cover the shop or if it includeds legal insurance. Thanks for any help that you all can give!

you don't say whether you're trying to buy this direct, yourself, or if you're going thru an agent. Along with the above advice, I HIGHLY recommend that you go thru an agent for this. They are licensed and know the laws of each state they sell in, they know what questions to ask and what exposures to look for.

There's a reason insurance agents have to be licensed .... there is a TON of information to know. (I know because I'm a former licensed agent.) Insurance is a legal contract. Go with an expert. Dont' go it alone.

I'm pretty dissatisfied with my insurance, so I won't recommend them. ($$$$$$$$$) Anyway, it expired 4 days ago . . . I guess I'm in the market for insurance too!

So... If I ask my USAA people who does our house and cars insurance about it, that is going directly to them with out an agent?. I am a little confuse. Can somebody explain. Where do I find that agent?

I just got liability ins. for my new business (last week) and paid $440 for 1 million, 2 million aggregate, and it also covers tons of other things....food spoilage, etc... I know I did a search on this on CC when I was trying to figure that same question out myself and I found several posts where the business owners only paid around $250 or so for what sounded like my same coverage, but none of the agents I contacted around here (OK) were able to do it for that price.

I called my insurance, USAA, and asked about business insurance. They asked several questions about what I'd be doing and quoted $650 per year for $1million in coverage, including damage to my rental kitchen, lawsuits, etc etc. Pretty much covered anything I could think of.
