I have tried three new all-natural flavors from the batch I ordered from Spices, Etc and, as promised, I am posting my thoughts.

I used the Coconut in the dough and also in the RI. With the first batch, I paired the two, another time I paired the coconut RI with a sugar cookie and a Coconut Sugar Cookie with vanilla RI. The bottom line is that I was very pleased. I see why Cook's Illustrated rated the Spices, Etc. Coconut flavoring the highest. Lots of rave reviews - very yummy! thumbs_up.gif

For amounts, I replaced the 2 tsp. of vanilla with the 2 of coconut in the NFSC (I only use 1/2 tsp. baking powder). I mixed my dough, wrapped it well and let the flavors meld overnight. I will be doing this flavor again... and again!

Next I used Lemon in the RI and it was wonderful! Just a perfect lemon kick without any aftertaste. Delish on the Coconut Sugar Cookie I did. thumbs_up.gif More rave reviews!

Same with Lime in the RI on a Coconut Sugar Cookie. I had done Lime on my creamsicle cookies I posted on a Sugar Cookie and got great results as well.

I thought I would also start playing with the Clear Vanilla. I do love that it is all-natural. I definitely noticed a difference from when I had it in and when I did not. It took that 'bite' out of the RI that so many of us complain about when it does not have flavoring (if you are not aware, Antonia74's MP already has flavoring in it, so she does not have to deal with this). No aftertaste at all. It did not give as strong a vanilla taste compared to the Two Fold (Double Strength), but that is completely to be expected. The two fold was delish, but then I had that tint issue to contend with and don't wish to add too much Americolor Bright White.

Will I use the Clear Vanilla again? Most definitely! I do not always want a determined flavor in the RI as it can compete with the dough flavor and this will be a a good all-around RI to use in that case. I will be playing more with adding more to see if I can get more of a vanilla taste (but it also might have been thrown off by the Wilton MP I was using.) I would say a thumbs up on the Clear Vanilla. I will be interested to see what others think. I paired it with a Coconut Sugar Cookie and really liked it.

So... (to wrap it up)...I made some flip flops cookies for the swim team concession stand and used the Coconut Sugar Cookie with Lemon RI and the same Coconut Sugar Cookie with Lime RI and some with Vanilla RI (made with the above mentioned clear vanilla). They sold out before it started and lots of good reviews on the taste!

I thought it best to put myself out there and (shush!) ate one of each. My thoughts - yum! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

If you missed the other posting, thumbs up on the Cherry in the RI.

Oh, additionally, I just did green beach towels Vanilla Bean Sugar Cookie with Lime RI today. Another thumbs up with that combination.

P.S. - If anyone thinks about ordering and did not see my thread that was deleted due to procedure (oops!), you can PM me for a 'not specific to CC' first time order discount code (kind of like how we see the Michael's coupns floating around here). I don't want to post it, even thought it is a generic one, for concerns of appearing to do something wrong. The other one was specific to CC'ers and that was the issue.

(edited for typos and not being able to get the title in the amount of space I had icon_lol.gif )

Thanks for your awesome review, Tracy icon_biggrin.gif All of your cookie/icing combos sound so yummy! I posted my opinions of coconut, lime, lemon, clear vanilla, and strawberry on your original post since I received my flavorings this week. I haven't tried any of the flavorings in cookies yet, but I did try different ones in icing. I, too, loved the lime, lemon, and coconut. I was going to try the coconut cookie/lime icing pairing because that sounds like heaven! I also mixed lime and coconut in the RI, and that was so good. The clear vanilla was very good in the RI. The only one that I wasn't sure about was the strawberry. It had an odd smell that I'm not real sure about. It didn't taste bad when mixed in the RI, but I'll have to try it again. I'd be curious to see what other people think about the strawberry.
Thanks again for taking the time to write your review, and I hope others who ordered will do the same.

thanks for all of that information, Tracy! I got my clear vanilla already, and based on your experience, will give it a go in my next batch of RI.

I thought the clear vanilla was nice and subtle - took that 'taste' out of the RI that so many of us don't care for. I will try adding a bit more next time, but I am happy with it.

Tricia - I will try the strawberry this week. I opened my bottle and it does have a very concentrated strawberry smell. I am excited to try that one.

Anyone get/have opinions on the butter flavor? Just wondering how it would compare to Wilton's.

I haven't tried Wilton's either icon_redface.gif Is Spices, etc. clear or slightly yellowish? I was just curious because I have been contemplating buying some Wilton butter flavor, but would rather go through Spices if it's better quality.

I tried the Wilton butter flavor, but not the Spices one yet. And the Wilton doesn't taste butter at all... I'll never use it again...
I'm still waiting for my Spices order, I'm supposed to have it in a few days.
