Wait a minute, did I read your post right? You used gumpaste IN your Cricut? Or did you cut from paper and then use it as a template to hand cut?
I have a cricut and I've been thinking about cutting templates from paper.

OMG I am so excited! I have been wanting so badly to try this, but have been too chicken to put anything into my Cricut! I am about to do it right now! I would love to know what blade depth, speed, and pressure you used. Also, Hobby Lobby has the cartridges on sale this week 2/$90.

Just a heads up........I do believe that I have heard thru the grapevine,at Michael's next week... that the 'baby bug', the small Cricut machine will be on sale for $99 next week.....and the cartridges will be on sale for $44.99.....good prices.
You can not use the coupons on the Cricut products...sorry, it's a bummer! 
These are good prices though....and also check online.....there are better prices out there other than just at Michael's.

My friend got a Cricut Expression on eBay for $220. I know that they are $399.00 @ Michaels and they NEVER go on sale. The other Cricuts do about 3 times a year, but I don't know why the Expression never does.
At Wal-Mart the Cricut Expressin is $290.
I have been looking at them on eBay, but it is really hard to get one....I have been trying on and off for about a year. But my friend did tell me that when she won hers on eBay...she had to bid around 3:30 in the morning just to get it.
And how thin is a 9 on a pasta machine???

can you use 50/50 fondant/gumpaste or just straight gumpaste?

"I'll give you a tip! Im a scrapbooker and purchased a Cricut about a year ago. I went with the Create, for a few reasons.
First and foremost the price difference between the Create, Original and Expression. The Expression is significantly more expensive.
If you dont think you'll cut giant shapes, then go with the Create.
The Create is smaller, can be moved around easier. The Expression was designed to be more stationary.
The Create has more functionality than the Original.
I figure it like this, start with the Create. If your needs change, and you want to cut bigger shapes you can always upgrade to the Expression. Then you still have your Create which you can take with you to crops and use for smaller projects.
its totally worth the investment.
Also, I totally recommend buying the Storybook cartridge. Did you go to the at deseretdesigns.com site? Did you see the brown cake with the ABS monogram? Thats the Storybook cartridge. The whole design is.
If you scrap and do cakes, its the most versatile!
Oh and if you're still nervous about buying a Cricut, check out hallmarkscrapbook.com or scrapbook.com, I believe both sites sell refurbished machines for cheap. Might only be the original, but still worth looking into. try craigslist too."

Michael's does sometimes have the Expression on sale. I bought mine after Christmas for $299, and got the tool kit free as well. No one ever lets you use a coupon on Cricut merchandise.
Yes the cartridges are expensive, but as has been mentioned the Story Book is a great one to have.
You might also think of getting the Design Studio for the Cricut. Check out the website (Cricut.com) to check it out. They even have a trial version you can download and play with it to see what you can do.
I also invested in Sure Cuts A Lot (SCAL) (bought it on Ebay for $60, free USB cable and free website downloads and free shipping - absolutely couldn't beat it. The site for the SCAL is http://www.craftedge.com/index.html. This lets you connect your computer to the Cricut and you can cut out anything you want, without having to have a specific cartridge. Think of the money you can save in the long run! Worth spending a little time to check all this out.

That's my understanding. Go to the website http://www.craftedge.com/index.html and read through the forums. There is a lot of info and questions that might help. I just bought SCAL last weekend and it hasn't arrived yet, so I can't answer any specific questions about it per se. But from what I have read, it's a great product. There are also two free software programs that will be a big help as well: Inkscape and SVG Factory. They are available on the web, just google their names and go to the links and download. They will go hand in hand with SCAL.

FYI ladies and gents...you cannot use any coupons for the cricut and/or cartridges. Because they say that they "sell them at a discount price already", there aren't any coupons that can be used. Sorry!! But, you can sometimes find them at a better price on ebay. I bought mine off line and got a pretty good deal. I wouldn't buy it "used" if you plan on searching ebay though! I am on vacation, but am planning on trying it out when I get home!!! I also know that if you use a deep housing blade it may work better because there is more space between the blade and the gumpaste. You want to roll it as thin as what you would to make roses. If you need to know anything else, I will do my best to help out! Just PM me! :O)
