I have an order for a cupcake tower and cupcakes for April for a bridal shower and I was going to order one that's from bakery crafts that's around $30.00 and it says it's disposable but I want one that can be reused that I can just charge a deposit for (a minimal one though) and switch out the ribbon and decorations as needed. The ones from bakery craft are made of polystyrene.....does anyone know how sturdy they are or if they look cheap in person? Hard to tell online.
Or if anyone knows there I can get one that doesn't look "cheap" but doesn't cost over $50.00 or so? I'm getting to where I'm gonna have to make one, but I don't have a saw or anything..so I'm going to spend a fortune at first just to make it to cut out the rounds.
Any help you guys can offer would be REALLY appreciated!
Tina
nobody??? There are tons of cupcake towers on here...nobody has that bakery crafts one and knows if it's cheap looking or not?
I've been looking a cupcake stand too, but I'm not sure which one I want. I saw the cake/cupcake stands on sale on www.efavormart.com. I think it's pretty good deal.
Here's one I made recently... not too bad price wise. I used 3 cake drums, a dowel inserted down the center (5/16 I think), and the spacers are pvc pieces from Lowe's ($1.43 each, I believe. They are in the plumbing section & no need to cut.) I do have a pretty handy hubby, so he cut circles of masonite to keep the dowel perfectly centered and add stability.
I wish I could quickly draw you a pic, hopefully the finished product will be helpful. Once it's returned by my friend next week, I'll take pics of the individual pieces.
I didn't even wrap the PVC pipe with ribbon this time because I needed white. It also comes in different widths, I think I used the 4"?
Well, darn. It wouldn't let me add the photo to my reply, so I added to my photos if you'd like to take a look.
i would be interested in seeing the pics of the CC tower too!!! I went to menards today to price out boards that my hubby could cut out for me. This would just give him another project im sure he would be happy to experiment with. He has made me a few things in the past but feels comfortable with dimentions and pics to get an idea. Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!
Don't know how big you want it. I bought my Wilton one at Joann. And they have them at Michaels. You can use a 50%off coupon and it is $10.
Its the 4 tier Dessert Tower, I would say it holds about 32-36 standard cupcakes. Can be reused and decorated and trimmed as you wish.
Someone posted a thread a few weeks ago with a pic of a cc tower they got for $8 at Dollar General. They said it was very sturdy and, if I remember correctly, it held 2 dozen cupcakes.
I like the cc stand on cupcaketree.com. They have two different sizes, they are reusable and you can decorate them to match the colors/theme.
HTH
I need something to hold about 4 doz. cupcakes and I want it to be something sturdy that I can "rent" out but something cheap enough that I don't have to charge more than say $30.00 deposit on it. I think I'm going to end up making one from wood with some thick doweling for the center supper. I need to find someone with a jigsaw, I'll post photos when I'm done. thanks, and I love the pic!!! I made one similar but I used these silver cardboard canisters from the Dollar Tree......but it's just cake boards so it's not super sturdy, but it definitely worked in a pinch.
I went to dollar general and got that stand as well. It was on sale for $6. It was ok for some things but not like the picture. It has several round plates with indentations for the cuppies to sit in. The center is a stainless steel post that screws it all together. The plates look like little flower cutters. They hold 24 cuppies. for the stand like in the picture, I use the cake drums and styro circles/dummies for the center tower. I have done them in several different looks by just changing the ribbon, cake foil wrap, covered in fondant or chocolate. They are reasonable cheap and work well for me. I also use my old center post tier set from wilton that I hardely ever use for anything else.

saw this on ebay... maybe you could make this? It says it is made from styrofoam, and that may be easier than dealing with wood...

I have not ordered from these sites, but I am looking for a large cupcake stand as well. When I needed a three tiered smaller one, I made my own. I used a round glass platter as the base and first tier, then two smaller ones and glued (glass glue) inverted sundae cups between each plate. They turned out amazingly well.
I just ordered this one from Bed bath & beyond. I had a 20% off coupon, you can't use it online though. So I went in the store, ordered it there, used the 20% off coupon and they had it shipped to my house. It cost me $47 after tax, shipping.

This is a two part tutorial on a CC stand this couple designed. Very versatile, can be set up with differing numbers of tiers.
Hope this helps.

I took the instructions off of the one from youtube since it looks simple, yet can be eleagant and VERY sturdy. I'll be cutting the wood this Saturday for it, I'll be sure and post pics when I'm done....thank you for all the responses. Mine's gonna weigh a ton!! I couldn't find the right particle board so I bought 1/2" thick MDF so I guess at least it will be super STURDY! LOL
oh I just wanted to add all of the stuff to make it (I'll probably get 10 rounds out of my supplies) only cost me $27 and change and actually if I have enough scrap from my threaded center rod I'll have enough in the supplies I already bought to make at least 2 - 5 tiered stands.
This includes 2-2'x4' pieces of MDF, 4 tee nuts (to screw on the top and bottom), 3ft long section of 1 1/4" doweling, 3ft. threaded metal rod, one can spray paint primer, and 2 cans of high gloss white spray paint. Not too bad, especially if it makes 2 stands........but even if it only makes 1, I'll be happy with the quality of it over those stinkin styrofoam ones.
Ok, here's an update...........I made the stand!!! Initially when I cut the boards (2-2'x4' boards) I wound up getting enough for 2-5 tiered round stands and one 5 tiered square stand from the 2 boards!! Bonus!! In the end I was able to make this stand for only $10.00 in supplies........(if you figure I spent about $30.00 to make 3 stands)....the stand is super sturdy and looks great...IMO anyhow, much better than the foam ones!!
In any case here is my final tower filled with cupcakes! The customer wanted it to resemble one from pink cake box so I'll include theirs for reference (mine is the purple one)
nope, not at all!!! I don't know how to make anything out of wood!! I used a drill, a sander, and a jigsaw with no previous experience!
Khlastead I'm not sure if the link your posted is the same one I'm looking for. It's one where the girl is actually the cake-ist. HAHAHAHA
Anyways, her hubby was the one that made the cake stand for her. A two-part video. I thought I bookmarked the link on my notebook but I didn't.
Is that the video you posted? The link doesn't work.
And I can't seem to find it on youtube.
?
Or if you have the insturctins...well of at least the middle part. I can try and figure out the rest but i don't remeber how to get the metal rod through the dowels/pipes/whatever they were...why DIDN''T I at least write the instructions?
Khalstead,
That is exactly what I'm looking for! Our 3 kids are all graduating this spring, and I'm thinking of making cupcakes instead of cake for their party.
Can you please tell me the sizes of the circles and squares you cut for the cupcake stands? And did you cut the 1 1/4" thick dowel into sections, then drill down the middle for the threaded rod to pass through it?
Thanks for your help.
