I swear that I saw a topsy turvy tutorial somewhere!!! I thought it was here, but I can't find it anywhere on here. I also searched Youtube and a couple of other places. I remember that it was step by step pictures, rather than a cohesive video. Has anyone else seen something like this somewhere?
I'm going to attempt my first one for my neice's birthday (with the help of 2 of her 11 year old friends who want to surprise her with a really over the top cake - not sure what I'll keep them busy with!). This is my chance to have someone else pay for my practice materials!!
Thanks for any help you can give me!

Oooh, Kivia, that's gorgeous. Sorry, I've never seen a tutorial for that one before. Hope someone can help you!
Thanks Jeanne! I've been wanting to do one of these, but had no idea how. They are so cool looking!
I am sorry if this question is dumb but...
I love the diagram for the non carved TT cake! Thank you. I was wondering, when you insert the dowels in the cake tiers, do you need to carve the bottom of the dowels on an angle to sit flat on the cake board since the board is on an angle ...or.... do you insert them down , through the board into the styrofoam??
Thanks
This is the basic construction for a non-carved TT cake.. You use styrofaom wedges to prop up the tiers and make them crooked.
Would it be totally weird if i said i love u Really, i've been looking for some kind of scetch, pic or something to show me how this is done. Thank you, thank you, thank you
Now my next dumb question would be..how on earth do u stop the cake from sliding off the board?? I am completely new to this Topsy Turvy stuff and i'm freaked out by it! Thanks!
You don't want the angle to be so extreme that the cake would fall off. This would make the layers potentially slide as well. I would put a central dowel through the whole shebang. No sense risking it.

Oh thanks so much...i am definately going to try it this weekend. Special Thanks!
When you use the syrofoam do you puy anything under it, or does it go right on the cake. I know when you drill a hole in styrofoam it makes a dusty mess, I was wondering if when you put the dowel in it, if any of the styrofoam comes off ?
I would glue a cake board to the bottom of the wedge and cover it with coordinating fondant.. that way there will be no styro touching the cake in anyway.
Ditto - I glue cake boards to the bottom of my styrofoam wedges and cover the sides in fondant.
so tell me do you always use something to hide the styro wedges.. like the leaves in the pic
when I tried to make one the whole top cake fell off! what kind of styro foam do you use!
