I have seen the color flow tecnique here on cc but can not find any info or recipes for it . I think it looks wonderful and would like to try it an an anime cake for my daughters birthday Friday. If anyone can tell me anything about color flow it would be a great help and a recipe would be really great!!! I cant wait to do this cake and share pics with all of you. Thank you so much for all your help.

Wilton sells a color flow mix that you only need to add sugar and water to, but I personally use the the Wilton RI recipe and then just dilute it until it is really thin (esp. since you need RI anyway). Normally with color flow you use a template which you then place wax paper over and trace the lines with with RI. After the RI dries you fill in the space between lines with the color flow. I will try and find you an example since it's kind of hard for me to explain.

aundrea, the Wilton site says use the color flow mix, but my Wilton teacher told us that using RI and diluted RI instead of full strength color flow and diluted color flow get very similar results, although she did say it would not be quite as strong, but unless you plan on making a bunch of color flow stuff I would not bother purchasing the mix, I would just use RI instead. To answer you other question, color flow and RI both taste like pure sugar because that is essentially what they are.

Ok, here is a tutorial I found. It looks like her she did it directly on what would be the cake and used the drawing on the wax paper for guidance. At any rate I hope this helps a little.

I just use the mix that Wilton sells! I started using it a couple months ago and LOVE it. It is very easy and looks awesome on your cake.

The color flow is stronger than RI, and I think it dries a little shinier. Personally, I use color flow mix on wax paper to trace my template: outline, then when you begin to fill, try for a "pillow effect" and don't stop/start, you need to work continuously so you fill the entire section before it begins to dry. You can google for a coupon, most weeks either AC Moore, Joann, Michaels has at least a 40% coupon you can print and they all take each other's. Have fun.

That's what I do too, NCmomof3boys. I use color flow quite often. I like the shine it has to it. I find a can of color flow mix an investment because I don't use it that often, so it lasts me a long time.
