Some friends of ours are having a 40th anniversary party friday. Yesterday their daughter approached me and told me she just found out the day beforeI do cakes. I do this as a hobby. Any way they were married in Puerto Rico. The have ordered a bouquet for a 6 in. cake. They are tropical looking red and green. That is all I have to go on. They just want a small cake usung the bouquet. And a sheet cake. I do not know what to do for the sheet cake. I really have no way of knowing how to decorate it. I do not know what kind of red ar flowers to make. Or how to make without flowers. Any ideas. I have to do this by friday. I told her I would help her out. Any pictures to give me ideas? Thanks.
How about a cake of memories? I do a cake I call a Life Quilt. It is divided in to sections, and inside each section is a memory...the day they met, where they got married, their kids, pets, grandkids, jobs, hobbies, whatever. The only limitation is your imagination. One section is for the Happy Anniversary greeting.

You don't have much time so I would suggest a pretty green frosing with red fondant cutouts, not too much as the bouquet for the top sound a bit overpowering & the cake is small. I would carry the theme through on the sheet cake. There are some very pretty ways to do cutouts, you could also do a little quilling if you want, using red & green together on a white or off white cake.
Since its a 40th, I'd go very simple and elegant by stacking the 6" in one corner of the sheet cake with the bouquet draping on and over the edge...then putting a very simple border, scrolling and some elegant writing congratulating them! In the middle, I'd put an edible image (done in edible ink of the two of them on their wedding day) in an oval shape) and frame it with your border tip, and use the red to "tip" that a tiny bit, not to be overdone.
I'd even make the border and scrolling in white/or off white (same as base icing) and just use the red in very small bits for accent such as maybe tipping the border a bit? This would let their beautiful bouquet speak for itself and be the focal point.
