Hey everyone!

I'm going to be making my first wedding cake soon! I'm excited...but I'm not sure how to make the chocolate fondant accents. Is this called "damask" (or something like that)? Are there cutouts out there for this? Or should I make my own fondant cutouts?

Any and all thoughts and feedback are welcome!
Thank you so much!!!

That cake design was in the Spring 2005 edition of Martha Stewart Weddings magazine. (Here's a pic.) I think www.designerstencils.com has the supplies you need to copy it? icon_confused.gif

Does anyone know of a way to find a damask pattern on the internet? I was reading on the internet about this Martha Stewart cake that Antonia found, and it says that they used a damask pattern - put wax paper over the pattern, and then piped an outline of royal icing and then filled in with royal icing.

Thanks again!!

Tonedna's right. Just do a search on that website for the word "damask". There's even info and a photo on the home page today about a damask cake design that Wendy Kromer did AND they have posted a video showing how to create the designs using their stencils!!! icon_surprised.gif

Not sure at all, but maybe a craft store has the cutters needed. Worth calling around some in your area, I'm sure. icon_smile.gif

I saw this in Martha's wedding book. they piped the partern on to wax paper and then attached it to the cake .

Maybe I'm crazy... but I can't seem to find this exact pattern on Designer Stencils. The bride wants this exact pattern. Thanks again for everyone's help! Sorry to keep posting on this!

antonia where did you find the info? I'd love to know how you do the stencil work for a cake like this.

cylstrial this link has all of those damask patterns, 5 of them I think. they look the same as the cake photo you posted anyway...

that article in MS was about taking inspiration from fabric.

i think they got the pattern from some fabric and then hand piped each piece.

I had a bride who wanted this cake back in Sept. but she didn't have a budget for it. so we came up with a solution that could fit her budget...

I used blue buttercream instead of fondant and then used a candy mould and chocolate to make a design that was similar but not as detailed. she loved it.

I'll try to upload the pic

Look through the designer stencils website or call them and ask for a catalog...We got one at the Orlando ICES convention and it cost about $3.00...It looks like the designer used a combination of stencils that they're paired to make it look like a cohesive one-stencil set.
