Would someone mind showing their best method for making loopy bows?

I tried hanging them over a broomstick once and that was a pain in the behind. I ended up tossing the idea and have never attempted a loopy bow since.

TIA!

I lay my loops on their side to dry. They seemed to stretch when hanging on a pole. HTH

There is a tutorial on the front page here on CC for looped bows. I use the wrapping paper cardboard roll to hang my loops over for a day or so then lay on their side to finish drying. It ususally takes at least a week for them to be completely dry (I use 50/50 gumpaste and fondant). Then just glue them with royal icing. HTH .
Have a great day!!

Awesome! Thanks bashini thumbs_up.gif

I was thinking I would have to make several more loops than they each show. I really like the one from tartacadabra.

Gonna try this tomorrow!

MacsMom -

Try this one too. It's a twist on some other bow tutorials:

I did it! I used Tracey1970's link and it worked great!

I used 50/50 MMF and gumpaste. I made the loops, decorated the rest of the cake, and within an hour put the bow together! I love that Wilton's pre-made gumpaste dries in an instant.

Thank you all icon_biggrin.gif

That looks great! Can you explain how you made the wires to curve and is it fondant beads on the end? Did they have to be set out to dry as well?

Yes, they are fondant balls. For the wires I hold the tip of one in a pair of needle nose pliers, then holding the opposite end I just form the loop. Trying to bend them by using your fingers to form it leaves too many creases.

Thanks!

Gorgeous cake! What gauge wire did you use? How do you keep the balls on the ends?

Oh, sorry! It's 18 gauge. I didn't use anything to stick them on, I just made sure the end of the wire was curled upward so they wouldn't fall off. I did let the balls dry for about 30 mins before I attached (they were still pretty soft).

Those are some great links! And better yet -- they are the kind of bows that I have been dying to make. Every time I try to find the right tutorial --- I come up empty handed!!

Thanks everyone!
