If You Mark A Cake As A Favorite You Should Leave A Comment.

Just a thought. I've seen a lot of cakes that can 100 favorites and only 3 comments. Obviously people thought enough about them to save them in the first place it would be nice if you left a comment.
Again, just a thought. icon_biggrin.gif

molassas in Alaska....... that is how slow the server (or my computer) moves when I am trying to look at pics. I 'save' first & if it's done while I am still around, I am sure to leave a comment. If it never loads up, I skip it...... I mean no disrespect, however.

You have a great idea, but for me, it has more to do with loading times then flat-out slefishness.

BS.

Don't be so sensitive. Take it as a compliment that someone liked your cake enough to save it as a favorite.

If I mark a cake as a favorite it is an enormous compliment. I mean, I thought the cake was cool enough to even look at, let alone pick as a favorite. I don't look at all cakes, just ones that catch my eye in some way. I don't save all cakes I look at, either.

It has nothing to do with selfishness. I'm a busy woman. I don't have time to leave a comment on every cake I look at/save.

It would be nice, we all like comments, but I don't think we should start making requirements for people when they save a favorite photo. Sometimes I don't leave a comment because everything I wanted to say was already said, usually 10 times. But I do like getting comments so I try to leave comments on photos that I don't even save to favs when I have a few extra minutes.

That is EXACTLY why I turned off comments on my photos. I wanted people to be able to view, save...whatever without feeling obligated to leave a comment. I am not saying that I don't like comments or commenting. I just don't like the idea that someone would feel they had to.

i don't have photos to show off yet, as i don't think they are worthy to put up on CC, not as good as the ones i've seen here.

however, if i have pics uploaded here, to have members here saving my pics as favorites is more than enough as far as compliments go. i've seen cakes with like 500+ favorites, & i go, WOW... there are more than 500 ppl out there who love this cake (not counting those who also love the cake but couldn't save as favorites becoz this site sometimes hanged on us).

well... that's me, how i would have felt. unsure about how the cake decorator him/herself feels about ppl saving as fav, but hardly leave any comments.

If I can, and have time, I leave a comment, and when I do it's sincere. Sometimes I don't either have time, or something original to say, so I don't leave one. I find it at least as, if not more flattering when someone saves my cake as a favorite, than if they leave me a comment. I would rather have more favorites, than an insincere comment made out of obligation any day. Just my 2 cents.

the only time i dont leave a comment is when i'm at work. yes i should be working if i dont have time to leave a comment but.. when i'm at work and i'm looking at cake pics here, and a customer comes in. i mark the favorite and close out immediately.

if i'm in a busy mode i don't open cc at all. but most times when i do look at a pic and mark it as a favorite- i do leave a comment icon_smile.gif

I've always felt that any comment, from "wow!" to "great job! to the more specific, "Incredible borders!" or even just a 'thumbs up' sign have been sincere whether it was left by me or for me...and no comment, IMO, was less appreciated than another.

There have been threads like this in the past, and threads where people complained because of the content of the comments.
"too generic" "too specific" "too critical" "too nice" "too brief" "don't ask me how I did the cake" "no one asked me how I did the cake"

I used to always leave positive comments. I would never criticize anyone's work. Now I rarely leave a comment at all because I might "say" the wrong thing.

My mother used to say "Damned if I do, damned if I don't"
As I've gotten older, I have come to know what she meant.
We can't win, no matter what we do.

btw, well said, chutzpah! you always wear that name well icon_smile.gif

I agree that as cake decorators we're all busy, but we all found time to respond to this thread, didn't we? (I know...sometimes we reeeeally DON'T have time and we should all understand that). I think it is those (like me) who don't get a whole lot of comments or favorites who just get enough of a boost from them to keep going. I doubt myself all the time, and it's great to see that someone else appreciates my work, especially someone else in the business. I think suggestions are great, too. I've only every had one person make a suggestion about one of my cakes and it was helpful. Another reason that a comment is nice is that you get to see who is looking at your cakes. If your cake was commented on by a "big dog" here, it's a big deal! When I look at the caliber of some of these cakes and see that their creators left me a compliment, it's really a great feeling. It doesn't really take much more time to add a compliment and I will make sure that I do that from now on.

if they marked it as a favorite, then that tells me they "appreciate" my work.

one more thing...

What happens if I commented on a photo? Should I save it as a fav also? icon_lol.gif

I comment on lots of cakes that I like, thumbs_up.gif but I don't save them. Just a thought! icon_razz.gif

I'd rather have 200 favs than 200 comments. I agree, to me it means a real compliment.

While comments are nice, I also agree that not getting comments but having people save cakes is a bigger compliment!

Just out of curiosity, does the OP have comments turned on? I noticed that mine has turned off more than once (not allowing others to leave comments)...just a thought.

I love getting comments, but am just happy anyone here even LOOKS at what I do! I come to cc to learn and improve - anyone's comments are just gravy to me.

I think it's easy to assume that because we are all here on cc with a joint love for cakes and making them that we are all very similar - truth is we aren't. There are all walks of life on this board, from members who have been featured on the Food Network to the very newest newbie with little or (dare I say it?) no skill.

Our time constraints are different, our computer speeds are even different...you get the drift. Let's just all enjoy each others pictures in the unique and individual way we see fit and appreciate that we even have a forum such as this!

Hi,
I'm really not sure why a subject like leaving comments vs. favorites causes such controversy (to each his/her own). However, I don't always leave a comment either to avoid redundancy ~ as my opinion/thought may have already been articulated by someone else. icon_smile.gif I'm just happy anyone even looks at my cakes. icon_rolleyes.gif

Interesting topic though. icon_smile.gif

I much prefer you save it to your favorites, think about all the "comments" threads in the past and how everyone says they always try to make a comment just to be nice.So just beacause they leave a comment don't mean they like your cake.lol
