First off I want to thank everyone for the nice comments. It means a lot. I havenât been at this very long.
Here is a quick how to.
First I flood my cookie (I use Antoniaâs Icing which I thin for flooding) I let this dry several hours or overnight.
Then I use another batch of Antoniaâs Icing. I barely add any water to the original recipe. I used a thick consistency for the stencil part.
I positioned my stencil where I wanted on the cookie and carefully held it down. When I first started I held it too tight and cracked the flooded icing. I then used a palate knife with a long head and took the icing and used a long sweeping stroke to apply the icing over the stencil. I tried to always go the same direction. When all areas were covered, I carefully lifted the stencil and Viola!
While the icing was still wet, I sprinkled it with cake sparkles or sanding sugar to get a different effect.
The only suggestion I would offer, especially if you are doing a lot of these is to have more than one stencil of the same design. You have to wash and completely dry it before you do the next. That was the most time consuming part of it.
I looked through some of my scrap booking supplies and found some stencils that I have never used.
You can also get stencils at www.culinarystencils.com I got the heart stencil (came with a cutter and 3 designs) www.kitchenkrafts.com
I highly recommend the culinary stencils simply because they are made well and not flimsy. Some of the other kind bend very easily and will make it much more difficult.

A special Thank You to Antonia for having to read many pm's because of my failure to insert comma's where needed in my cookie description. She handled it with such grace.
I am grateful for people like her on here who so graciously help us with all our inquires and questions.
Hope this helps.

Thank you soooooooo much.
I will have to check into this.
At the moment I'm using Toba's Glace and piping the outlining, then using RI roses on mine.
I love the look of yours though.
But mine have to be off white....ugh..
I don't want to have to use coloring, just for the mere reason if you have to make another batch of icing, you're not always guaranteed to get the same color. So...that's my problem.
Thanks for your system...I will definately be using it in the near future.
Hi Rose,
Thanks so much for taking the time to post the "how to" for your stenciled cookies. I can't wait to give this a try, your cookies were just beautiful!
I checked culinary stencils and saw the heart stencils, but I really really like the stencil you used on the all white wedding cake (the one with the white bow on top). Was this a stencil you already owned, or did you purchase it from one of the two sites you mentioned? I have never done this before, so where would you suggest I go to look for a stencil like the one you used?
Thanks again for sharing!
Joanne
Hi Rose,
Thanks so much for taking the time to do this! You haven't been at this very long? You can't mean cookie decorating as your designs are phenomenal and it looks like you have been doing it for years! Your baby face cookie is the cutest thing I have ever seen! I put it in my favorties just so I could see it and smile.
Congratulations on all of your beautiful designs! You sound like an amazing person with being a cookie designer, photographer, mother, etc. Thanks again for sharing your gorgeous, smile-inducing designs!
Take care,
Tracy

That particular stencil I picked up at JoAnns in the craft painting department where they also have stencils. They are the small accent stencils made by Momenta(which by the way apparently bought American Tradititional Stencils) They look very familiar.
The design number is BL-330 Medallion
Hope this helps. Finding suitable stencils is not an easy thing. I guess they are not popular anymore. I loved them myself and have many I used for dry embossing. I'm thinking of trying the brass ones, but think that they would be hard to lift off without damaging the stenciling.
Hope you can find it!
Thank you Rose for posting your 'How To'. I have 2 large weddings coming this fall (same family!!) and I am doing cookies for the favors. I hope to have your technique down pat so that I can do the stenciling on one of the orders!
Thanks again,
Suze
Great info! I agree that Culinary Stencils have a very good product. I saw them at the ICES convention last summer in Omaha (very nice and helpful people), and bought a number of them...they even gave out some free mini-stencils. (The best 4 letter word in the dictionary!).
Thanks so much for posting this information. It is very thoughtful and generous of you. I love your work and aspire to do as well.
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain yourstencilling method and for postng it! It's very generous of you. I checked out your gallery and it's awesome. Keep up the fabulous work!
Thanks for sharing with us! When I saw the pics my concern was the part to clean and dry the stencil for the next cookie. In my head I was trying to avoid this step and now you confirm it.
I will use it on a very, very, very special order.
Thanks again!
Thanks so much. It is very kind of you to share your method.
Your work is amazing. Not only the stenciling, but the precision of your outline and flooding. You can always see my outlines. Yours are perfect.
Thanks again.
Thank you for sharing your stenciling technique. Your cookies are absolutely beautiful. I'm really looking forward to trying this.

Hello Cakegal, i would like to know your experience, or anyone in this forum, with Tobas Glace, i found it very translucent when it i have used it..
I did art work for a living for many years and made most of my own stencils. You need a tiny, thin bladed scissors to cut with and blank stencil squares that most craft shops carry. Don't make the mistake of trying to cut mylar as it is just too thick for the tiny detail. It is lots of fun to do it this way and gives you a wide range of patterns to use.
Hope this is of some help.
Lily

Try adding some brite white food color to the icing when you mix it up. Also, if it's thicker, it's going to be whiter so add more powdered sugar.

Gemini: My TG tends to get spotty (blotchy), maybe because I'm not adding white even if adding other color?
Always add the white! To me, it's just a part of the recipe that gets added before dividing and coloring. I haven't had a problem with spotting or cloudiness since using the brite white, so I really think it helps.
Gemini, I think mine is called wilton white-white. Same thing?
Thanks
I would assume it is. It's just white food coloring. I know other decorators have mentioned they use Wilton...the brite white is Americolor.
I know this is an old thread, but I just found it. Awesome info about stenciling cookies. Thank you!!
Yes, it's a helpful thread. cookie stenciling is a decorating option that gives a non-artist like me, a pretty cookie.
Rosie2: Thank You. That's kind.
It's a struggle to decorate neatly for me. I use CK products Royal Icing mix. just add water. I don't do enough decorating this way so it's easier for me to open a bag.

Oh, is by CK products. I'd like to try it next time I make cookies. Thanks a lot for sharing MBalaska!
