I have to make Tiramisu tomorrow and it sounds easy but I have never even had it before so I really don't even know what its supposed to look like. Any tips?
Also, I could not find the marscapone cheese in my area and it sounds expensive so I was going to use the alternative recipe I found for it but does anyone know if there is a big difference?
Found a step-by step tutorial (for this recipe, anyway):

ok thanks Jan. I think my problem is that I have looked at too many recipies and they are all different. I am picking the easies one and going with it.
My neighborhood has a progressive dinner every month and this month the theme is Italian and I have the dessert. Thats why I am doing this but I think I am going to make up a spaghetti and meatball cake just in case my trial fails. Thanks again Jan!
I make tiramisu all the time without the marscapone cheese. I would suggest that if you are using very hard lady fingers, to be careful about saturating them too much. I try to get "biscottini" which look like the lady fingers, and tastes like them too. If you need my recipe please let me know. Also, if you have a cuisinart much easier to shave the chocolate. You may want to refrigerate them before shaving.
