I want to use rice krispy treats as a base for some basic shapes and then cover in fondant. Do I shape it when warm or cold?

Thanks,
Kathi

If you're shaping with your hands I think you would need to do it while they are still warm. If you are using some kind of a cutter that can be done when they are cooled.

I just did my first RCT sculpture. Wear gloves! It is hot. When I started they were too hot and fell apart so I let them cool a bit (but they were still hot) and it worked much better! I totally underestimated how many RCT's to use. My dinosaur was supposed to be much larger but I just ran out of time! I only had an hour with no kids to ice, decorate, and make the RCTs. They wanted three different theme's for their B-day. I am not proud of this cake but I figure three four year olds aren't too picky! Thanks to Kitagrl for the advice on RCT's!

I agree with Tiggy2 - it depends on what you are doing with them. I just made a large mountain out of RCT for part of my son's BD cake (pic is in my gallery). I mixed the RCT up and then let them cool for 10 or 15 minutes all still in the bowl. They were still fairly warm though when I made the mountain. I did let them cool completely though before I put the fondant on top.

HTH!
